Mellow Yellow Monday

Yellow is:
the glowing sky as the sun sets
buttercups, daffodils, and Kansas sunflowers
stalks of wheat swaying in the wind
fading Fall leaves
Yellow is the color of joy

Green Grows the Ivy

It amazes me how vibrant and green ivy stays all winter long no matter how cold and snowy the weather.  Strong, hardy, forever spreading and climbing.

Traits we humans need  to cultivate!

       Ever green ivy
Coldest snow of deep winter
  Cannot dim Spring's glow

What a Difference A Day Makes

I  took this picture right after it had snowed---a perfect "Winter Wonderland".  What a difference a day or two makes.   Animal tracks, human tracks, sled tracks, car tracks, slush and dirt polluting what was a " perfect, pure, pristine landscape".    Aah, but it will snow again,
and the serene beauty of a winter's day will once again put us in wonder of nature's beauty.

"Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fire:  it is the time for home."      Edith Sitwell

"Winter, a lingering season, is a time to gather golden moments, embark upon a sentimental journey, and enjoy every idle hour."   John Boswell

White Plains

Winter's biting blast
Races cross flat barren plains
Coating world in white

Snow Glorious Snow

Finally, our first snowfall-----so beautiful.  I enjoyed walking around our yard taking a few pictures.  The only things to mar the perfect snow were tracks of rabbits and squirrels who braved the cold.

Unbelievable!

I just had to post this picture--the real sunset was "unbelievable"!

Sunset in the Flint Hills

As I was driving through the Flint Hills of Kansas tonight, another beautiful sunset was on the horizon.  I climbed a little hill to take a picture.  Another motorist stopped his car and, with his camera in hand, climbed up to also take a photo.  We have had the most gorgeous sunsets these last few months.

Fiery sun's bright glow
Ferocious streams of color
Light up evening sky.

Fallen Leaves

Fallen leaves lie still
Blanketed in icy bed
Frosty Winter home

A beautiful
archway
by the
pond.

Frosty crystals of ice illustrate the intricacies and beauty of nature.

Captured in Stillness

No snow yet, but it was cold enough for ice to form around the edge of the pond.

Frosty ice fingers
Once warm clear freely flowing
Captured in stillness

Birthday Celebration

                               A Birthday Celebration for Alexis

" Gee whiz,   is she ever going to blow those candles out so we can cut the cake!!!!"

Decorating a cake takes a great deal of concentration.
A "work" in progress.

Seeking Peace

      Noble birch reach high
                               Lift gnarled branches to heaven
                                      Do you too seek peace

    Winter's dying sun
The passing day salutes
                you
   Rest in peace this night

A Day On The River

Sunday afternoon was spent on the Arkansas River (that's pronounced Ar KAN sas) here in Kansas.  Although it was 15 degrees early Sunday morning, it reached 45 degrees by midafternoon and was quite pleasant.  It helped that the sun was brightly shining.  These are but a few of the hundreds of geese one will find on the river.

In the Spring and Summer when this tree is a mass of green leaves,  one would never know how twisted and gnarled the trunk and branches are.  It is truly a "work of art" the way the branches intertwine.
