San Fernando Cathedral

Centuries of prayer
       Silently wafting skyward
                Blessed assurance found

The Cathedral of San Fernando, located in San Antonio, Texas, claims to be the oldest cathedral in the United States.  It was built between 1738 and 1750.  It is still a vital church with over 5,000 attending Masses during the week.   While in San Antonio last weekend, I visited this church, the Alamo, the River Walk, and the Alamodome ( where the Kansas University Jayhawks basketball team lost in the "Elite 8" round in their quest to make it to the Final Four).   Other than the Jayhawks' loss, it was a great trip.

«Louis» missed this church when he visited San Antonio. It looks quite interesting - and, despite begin a native Texan, he didn't know this is the oldest cathedral in the U.S. (But then «Louis» is from Lubbock, and that's a LONG way from San Antonio...)
