The St. Louis Arch was designed by Finnish-American architect, Eero Saarinen and German-American structural engineer Hannskari Bandel in 1947. Construction began in 1963 and the Arch opened to the public in June of 1967. It cost 13 million dollars at the time (approximately 96 million today) and is the tallest man-made monument in the US at 630 feet. An awesome sight and a "must see" attraction when you visit the great city of St. Louis.
