The Weekend In B&W- Tower of Stone

                                      Man's tower rises
                              High into vast cloudless sky
                                   Reaching for unknown

This building is located in San Antonio, Texas and was build in 1931.  It was the first hospital to be a skyscraper.  When viewing the building from a certain angle, it creates the illusion that it is a 2 dimensional building.  I wasn't quite at the right spot when I took the top photo to get the 2D look, but I thought it was quite beautiful architecture.   The photo below is not mine, but it does show you the 2D illusion when you are looking at the building from the right angle.

I also thought this was a building in Europe. Very interesting for a hospital.

That is an impressive building.

This has to be one of the most unusual pieces of architecture I have ever seen and the idea that it is a hospital makes it even more interesting. I looks to have rooms on either side of a single hallway...narrow. Love the contrast of your photo with the other one. Genie

What is the name of the hospital? We lived there for three years 1990-1993. Very beautiful.

The top looks more like a wedding cake! Is it still a hospital or has someone turned it into an hotel?

I love that building and know right where it is on the San Antonio river canal. We had a tour guide several years ago who said that he was born in that building.

Hi Mickie, I've seen that ... your picture is fantastic, and I didn't know the history behind the building. Thank you! I love your header photo too; it is spectacular.

Hope you are having a great summer!

That perspective shot is amazing, and the vignetting in the first one is perfect. It looks like something glimpsed in another world.
